The Sevillian matador will face six bulls alone in the Corrida In Memoriam dedicated to Ignacio Sánchez Mejías on 7 June at Las Ventas.
Las Ventas Bullring hosted on Monday the official presentation of one of the most anticipated events of Madrid’s bullfighting season: the Corrida In Memoriam dedicated to Ignacio Sánchez Mejías, scheduled for 7 June. The event will see Borja Jiménez take on the huge challenge of fighting six bulls alone from the renowned Domingo Hernández and Toros de Cortés ranches.
The presentation took place in the Sala Alcalá at Las Ventas and brought together several figures connected to the event. The Sevillian matador was the centre of attention throughout the gathering, making clear the scale of the challenge he will face at what is widely considered the world’s most important bullring.

Borja Jiménez admitted that a solo corrida of this nature can define a bullfighter’s career, particularly in Madrid, where the demands of the fans intensify the pressure. Even so, he said he feels motivated and fully prepared for a challenge that arrives at one of the most important moments of his career.
The matador is currently enjoying a period of major success at Las Ventas following his recent triumphs in Madrid. During the presentation, he openly expressed his ambition to continue building his legacy in the arena after opening the Puerta Grande in consecutive seasons.

Beyond the sporting aspect, the corrida will also carry strong symbolic significance as a tribute to Ignacio Sánchez Mejías, a key figure in the history of bullfighting and also an important name in the cultural and intellectual life of his era. Borja highlighted precisely this universal dimension of the Sevillian bullfighter, recalling his ability to connect the world of bullfighting with art and literature.
Also attending the presentation were Rafael García Garrido, president of Plaza 1, and Miguel Martín, managing director of the Bullfighting Affairs Centre of the Community of Madrid. Both emphasised the outstanding form currently shown by Borja Jiménez and the position he has earned within the top ranks of bullfighting thanks to his triumphs at Las Ventas.

Representing the ranches were Concha Hernández and Ricardo del Río, speaking on behalf of Domingo Hernández and Toros de Cortés respectively. Both expressed confidence in the bulls selected for the occasion and in the chances of success for a matador enjoying a remarkable stage in his career.
During the presentation, the official poster for the Corrida In Memoriam was also unveiled. It was designed by Juan Iranzo, a member of Plaza 1’s Communications Department. The artwork pays tribute to Ignacio Sánchez Mejías from both an artistic and cultural perspective, incorporating visual references closely linked to his legacy.
The design places Las Ventas at the centre of the composition and combines the image of the bull and Borja Jiménez with symbolic elements such as the clock stopped at five o’clock in the afternoon and references inspired by the worlds of Picasso and Lorca. The whole composition is wrapped in soft pastel tones that visually evoke Spain at the beginning of the 20th century.
The last remaining tickets for the Corrida In Memoriam are available exclusively through Servitoro or by calling +34 963 308 593.
