Madrid, 30 March 2025. The Fuente Ymbro novillada held this Sunday at Las Ventas was marked by the young toreros’ determination and the injuries suffered in the ring. Mariscal Ruiz delivered a courageous performance, earning an ovation after his faena to the fifth novillo despite suffering a serious cut to his right hand. Emiliano Osornio showcased his refined style with flashes of class, while Diego Bastos, who sustained a wound to his left calf, showed grit but was hindered by an uncooperative lot.
Mariscal Ruiz provided the most thrilling moments of the afternoon with his second novillo, starting his faena on one knee, commanding the bull with authority. However, the animal, lacking stamina, gradually faded, forcing the young Sevillian to give his all. Exposed, fearless, and working dangerously close to the horns, he crafted a highly commendable performance, albeit with limited impact on the crowd. After executing a well-placed sword thrust, he was given an ovation before heading to the infirmary with a deep cut on his right hand. His first novillo had already tested his resolve, as its difficult nature offered little room to shine.
Emiliano Osornio left glimpses of his personal style, particularly in his first performance. With composure and refinement, he attempted to build a standout faena, but the bull weakened, causing the act to lose momentum. His second opponent, a lacklustre and unfocused animal, forced him to rely on intelligence and technique, though he struggled to string together flowing sequences that could captivate the audience. He was applauded in both appearances.
Diego Bastos showed great determination from the outset. In his first novillo, he managed some quality natural muletazos but suffered a 10cm goring in his left calf. Despite the injury, he bravely returned to the ring for his second bull, which proved uncooperative. With no real opportunities for brilliance, Bastos fought to extract isolated passes one by one, ultimately retreating to the boards. He was met with silence on both occasions.
