San Isidro is packed with bullfights—an entire month of diverse line-ups, and at Servitoro, we’ll break them all down for you in detail. But for now, here are the five key events that, in our opinion, every true aficionado should have marked on their calendar.
In a month of bullfighting there are all kinds of posters. Of young, of figures, of bullfighting rank… combinations where you can find bullfighters safe bets, bullfighters spoiled by each fan… but above all, there are key posters. Those that every self-respecting bullfight fan should not miss. In Servitoro we help you to discover them.
La Quinta bulls for Uceda Leal, Daniel Luque, and Emilio de Justo. This event pays tribute to the 120th anniversary of the Real Unión de Criadores de Toros de Lidia. Six bulls from La Quinta, the iconic Santa Coloma-Buendía bloodline, will take centre stage, faced by three classically styled matadors who are true specialists in this lineage.
Victoriano del Río – Toros de Cortés bulls for Emilio de Justo, Roca Rey, and Tomás Rufo. This marks the first appearance of Andrés Roca Rey in the festival, the biggest box office draw and one of the most talked-about toreros in recent years. He returns to Madrid following his controversial performance last October. Alongside him is Emilio de Justo, a key figure in Las Ventas in recent seasons, and the young Tomás Rufo, the leader of his generation. The bulls? Six from Victoriano del Río, the most decorated breeder in Madrid in recent years.
Juan Pedro Domecq bulls for a mano a mano between Juan Ortega and Pablo Aguado. A clash of artistic talent! Two Sevillian matadors in Madrid—but art knows no borders. This is a line-up designed for true connoisseurs, perfect for those who go to the bullring with the pure intention of witnessing beautiful, elegant toreo.
Garcigrande bulls for Morante de la Puebla, Talavante, and Tomás Rufo. Morante returns to Las Ventas for the Corrida de la Prensa, after missing part of last season due to health reasons. He is undoubtedly one of the most eagerly awaited toreros at this venue. Joining him is Talavante, a matador of contrasts and a favourite among aficionados, and once again Tomás Rufo, determined to cement his status as a top figure in this prestigious fair.
El Freixo and Fuente Ymbro bulls for Marco Pérez, as the sole matador. One of the most highly anticipated events of the festival—Marco Pérez’s debut as a novillero with picadors in Las Ventas. The young prospect from Salamanca caused a sensation in a morning practice class two years ago, but now faces a much bigger challenge. This is how it has always been for those who stand out as novilleros, and now he must prove himself on the greatest stage. A true feat in the world’s most important bullring, marking a grand farewell to his novice status before embarking on his professional journey.
