Madrid Review – July 2, 2026
The second Cénate Las Ventas novillada was shaped by strong winds and the determination of all three novilleros, with Jairo López delivering the standout performance of the evening.

The Charity Bullfight is considered the most important of the year. Throughout history, all matadors have aspired to be featured on this bill, as it signified cachet and status. Indeed, on numerous occasions, several figures have performed for free in support of the noblest causes.
Today, the Beneficence has lost its altruistic character, but it remains the most significant event of each season. And in 2024, the bill has an added interest, as six bulls from Garcigrande have been selected for the occasion, arguably the most successful ranch of the last decade in bullfighting.
Morante de la Puebla opens the event with the mystery of which bullfighter we will encounter. This is part of his enigma. Will the genius from La Puebla triumph at Las Ventas? So far, he is the only bullfighter who has captured the heart of this venue without ever having opened its Grand Gate.
And what about Castella? Will he be able to increase his tally that consecrates him as the bullfighter who has cut the most ears in Madrid in the 21st century? His six triumphal exits and the number of unforgettable afternoons he has starred in this ring make him the most important bullfighter France has produced.
Closing the bill is Fernando Adrián, following his double victory last year. The bullfighter from Torres de la Alameda, who made his debut in 2013, comes to Madrid to fight his 40th bullfight as a matador, with a spectacular record of 34 triumphal exits, 21 of them consecutive. Will he once again break through the threshold of Las Ventas next Sunday? Will he approach the record of the master Rincón, who holds four consecutive Grand Gates? Be a direct witness to this event. Don’t let them tell you about it!

The second Cénate Las Ventas novillada was shaped by strong winds and the determination of all three novilleros, with Jairo López delivering the standout performance of the evening.

Aragonese novillero El Mene was the only bullfighter to achieve a trophy during the demanding opening night of the Cénate Las Ventas series, despite the disappointing performance of the Los Chospes young bulls.

Cristian Pérez impressed the Las Ventas crowd with a courageous performance that earned him an ear and a lap of honour. Alejandro Peñaranda also produced several noteworthy moments.
