The Las Ventas bullring announces its schedule for Sundays in April. Get closer to the bulls before San Isidro. We tell you everything you can’t miss:
After the Easter festivities, which will mark the start of the new season at La Monumental, the Las Ventas bullring announces three novilladas (bullfights with young bulls) and a corrida de toros (bullfight) during the month of April. These four events precede the bulk of the programming: The mini-fair of La Comunidad and, above all, the San Isidro Fair.
Up to five novilleros (novice bullfighters) will make their debut in the capital’s bullring in these pre-San Isidro festivities. Meanwhile, the bullfight on Sunday, April 28, will conclude the month in Madrid with three bullfighters of different styles and ages, with bulls from Araúz de Robles, a ranch with a very particular origin, which has begun to be valued in the heart of this plaza’s fans.
Heading the trio of this last event is Curro Díaz, a bullfighter with an artistic style, very much to the liking of the most representative core of Las Ventas devotees, from where he has already been seen leaving on shoulders on two occasions. The bullfighter from Linares will be accompanied by David de Miranda from Huelva, who returns with the intention of once again displaying his Amanoletado style that made him the winner of the San Isidro Fair 2019. Completing the trio is the Portuguese Juanito, one of the most solid hopes of bullfighting on foot in the neighboring country.
On Sunday, April 7, the last winner of the Golden Shoe of Arnedo, Daniel Medina, a bullfighter from Valladolid but trained in the School of Salamanca, opens the month of April in Madrid. With a classic and sober style, he arrives to his debut in this bullring. The Riojan Fabio Jiménez and the Frenchman Tristán Barroso, two futuribles forged in Salamanca and Badajoz, respectively, will also make their debut. The steers will be from Brazuelas, a herd that fought an interesting lot a couple of years ago in this bullring.
Seven days later (Sunday 14) and with cattle from Sánchez Herrero, three bullfighters who, although they did not triumph, left an atmosphere in their previous appearances, will be back in the ring. First up is Borja Ximelis from Alicante, who likes to perform in the style and manner of his countryman Manzanares, while Mario Navas, from Valladolid, son of the former banderillero Félix Navas, is committed to bullfighting with class and taste. The Mexican Eduardo Neyra, who was very popular last August in his first bullfight here, will be in charge of the “tercia”, as they would say in his country of origin.
The last novillada of the month (Sunday 21 April) brings together two more debutantes, both bullfighters of dynasty as well. Manolo Vázquez, from Seville, a member of one of the most illustrious bullfighting dynasties in Seville, who was forged in the historic San Bernardo district, and the Mexican Bruno Aloi, son and brother of Aztec rejoneadores, although he, in his first steps in the profession, is making noise with the sword and the muleta rather than on the back of equines. Sergio Rodríguez, a bullfighter from Las Navas del Marqués of excellent qualities, who nevertheless did not finish last year, completes a line-up where a Los Chospes lot will be in contention.
