José Carlos Venegas from Jaén delivered the standout moments of a demanding Saltillo afternoon at San Isidro and received a warm ovation after his first bull.
The eleventh event of the San Isidro Fair produced a tough and demanding afternoon at Las Ventas, where José Carlos Venegas delivered the most memorable moments against a Saltillo, bullfight completed by a fifth bull from Couto de Fornilhos.
The bullfighter from Jaén found his best opportunity with the opening bull, an animal with movement and transmission that allowed him to build a composed and convincing performance. From the very beginning, Venegas showed determination and confidence, particularly in the natural passes, where he linked together elegant muletazos that connected well with the Madrid crowd.
His faena carried depth and commitment, always within the demanding character shown by the bull. After a well-placed sword thrust, the audience rewarded his effort with an ovation, prompting him to acknowledge the applause from the ring. His fourth bull, however, proved far more difficult and demanding, leaving little room for expression.
The bullfight gradually lost intensity as the afternoon progressed. Juan de Castilla showed willingness and commitment with the third bull, constantly trying to find rhythm and connection, although the faena never fully developed due to the lack of consistency from the animal. He remained determined with the sixth, but once again lacked the necessary conditions for greater success.
Juan Leal, had even fewer opportunities, drawing the least cooperative lot of the afternoon. The French matador displayed commitment throughout, but the lack of bravery and short-lived nature of his bulls prevented any significant highlights.
The Saltillo bulls displayed varied behaviour in a serious and demanding corrida with few concessions. The first bull, which allowed Venegas to shine, and the brave sixth were the most notable animals of the afternoon, despite the latter’s limited stamina.
